Mets Beat Up by Tigers

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

The New York Mets lost today (Wednesday) to the Detroit Tigers 10-6. Oliver Perez started the game for the Mets and continued his hot and cold pitching. He was not effective,  giving up six runs in 3 2/3 innings while walking six. Perez has now walked nine batters in just 8 2/3 innings this spring. With opening day drawing near, the Mets have to be worried about his performance. The Mets managed to tie the game in the fifth, only to give the game back to the Tigers. This was not a pretty game, at least if you’re a Met fan. The final box scores were: Tigers 10 runs, 12 hist, 2 errors / Mets 6 runs, 13 hits, no errors.

The Mets also had on their hitting shoes, scoring 3 runs in fifth and 9 more in the seventh. Omar Santos hit a three run homer in the inning. Jeremy Reed contributed four hits and Fernando Tatis had two hits for four RBI.  Shawn Green pitched a scoreless ninth for the Mets.

Hernandez Sharp but Mets Fall to Braves 7-4

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

With three other pitchers vying for the fifth spot in the rotation, Livan Hernandez picked an excellent time to put in a great performance. He went five innings, the longest of any Met pitcher this spring, going five innings, stiking out three and yielding only one run.  Also hoping for a spot in the rotation, Freddy Garcia came in for the sixth and gave up four runs adding to his already bloated ERA.  The fifth spot seems to be Hernadez’s to lose at this point, unless the Mets decide to bring back Pedro Martinez or trade for a fifth starter.
