Mets Blow Lead, Lose to Marlins

April 28th, 2009.  The New York Mets lost today to the Florida Marlins 7-4.  The Mets led 2-0, then 3-2, then 4-2 behind Livan Hernandez’s pitching. Hernandez departed in the sixth, but Sean Green was unable to hold the lead. This was the bullpens fourth loss already this season, and has some fans having nightmares about similarities to last years bullpen. Final box score: Marlins 7 runs, 7 hits, 1 run;  Mets 4 runs, 8 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Wed., Apr.29th, 1:10 PM v. Marlins in Florida.

Mets Lose to Cards

Apr 21st, 2009.  The New York Mets blew an early four run lead and lost today 6-4 to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.  Oliver Perez was strong for four innings and then, as has become typical, fell apart and game up four runs in the fifth.  The Mets had a chance to go ahead in the eighth but Carlos Beltran missed the plate and was tagged out.  Final box score: Mets 4 runs, 11 hits, 1 error; Cards 6 runs, 11 hits, 1 run.  Next game: Wed 22nd, 8:15 PM v. Cardinals in St. Louis.

Mets Fall to Brewers

Sat., Apr.19,2009.  The New York Mets wasted their opportunities and lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2.  Nelson Figueroa put in a good effort for six innings, but the Mets could not score, leaving 10 runners on base despite getting 12 hits.  Final box score: Brewers 4 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Mets 2 runs, 12 hits, 0 errors.  Next game, Monday, Apr.20th, 7:10 PM v. Washington in New York.

Mets Win, Shef Hits No. 500

April 17th, 2009.  The New York Mets squeaked by the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 on a historic night as Gary Sheffield pinch hit in the seventh inning and hit his 500th homerun.  Shef’s homer was also was first hit as a Met.  As for the game, the Mets loaded the bases three times and each time left them all stranded. They won it in the bottom of the ninth on a rbi single by Luis Castillo.  Livan Hernandez was good thruopugh five but then lost it all in the sixth and could not get an out.  Sean Green came on in relief and shut down the Brewers uprising. Sheffield’s homer came in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.  Final box score: Brewers 4runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Mets 5 runs, 13 hits, 0 errors.  Next game: Mets v. Brewers, Sat. Apr 18th, 1:10 PM.

Mets Lose to Padres

April 16th, 2009.  The New York Mets dropped a close one to the San Diego Padres today 6-5.  The Mets scored five runs on two homers, a three run shot from Carlos Delgado and a two run homerun from Ramon Castro.  But that wasn’t enough, as John Maine gave up sixth runs.  Final box score: Padres 6 runs, 9 hits, 1 run; Mets 5 runs, 9 hits, 0 errors.  Next game, Brewers v. Mets, Friday, April 17, 7:10 PM at Citifield in NY.

Mets Lose Home Opener

Monday, April 14th.  The New York Mets failed to win their home opener in the new Citi Field as they were beaten by San Diego Padres 6-5.  Mike Pelfrey had another rough start, giving up a homerun to the Padre’s Jody Gerut on his third pitch.  Then, in the fourth, after Pelfrey got the first two outs, the Padres got four straight hits and three runs and lead 4-0.  The Mets battled back and a three run homer in the bottom of the fifth from David Wright tied the game at 5-5.  The Padres scored another run in the sixth and that was it, the Mats could not muster another rally. Final box score: Padres 6 runs, 9 hits, 0 errors; Mets 5 runs, 7 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Mets v. Padres, 7:10 PM, in New York.

Mets Lose a Tough One 2-1

Sunday, April 12th.  The New York Mets wasted Johan Santana’s outstanding performance today by losing to the Florida Marlins 2-1.  Daniel Murphy’s dropped ball in the second inning turned out to be the difference in the game as the Marlin’s Josh Johnson held the Mets at bay.  Santana stuck out 13 and did not allow an earned run.  Final box score: Mets 1 run, 5 hits, 2 errors; Marlins 2 runs, 3 hits, 2 errors.  Next Mets game: Monday, April 13 v. San Diego (Mets home opener) 7:10 PM.

Mets Defeat Marlins

Sat., Apr 11th,  The New York Mets defeated the Florida Marlins 8-4 bebind the strong pitching of Livan Hernandez. Luis Castillo also had a good day, getting four hits. Ryan Church had two doubles, helping stake the Mets to an early lead. The final box score: Mets 8 runs, 15 hits, 1 error; Marlins 4 runs, 11 hits, 2 errors. Next game-Sunday, April 12th, 1:00 PM.

Mets Lose to Marlins 5-4

April 10th.  The New York Mets lost to the Florida Marlins 5-4.  John Maine wasn’t bad but gave up two homeruns while striking out five. The Mets tied the game in the ninth with two runs but the bullpen failed, with the Marlins getting a walkout single in the bottom the the frame. Final Box Score: Mets 4 runs, 11 hits, 0 errors; Marlins 5 runs, 11 hits, 0 errors.  Next Game: Saturday, April 11th, 6:10 PM in Florida.

Mets Drop One to Reds

The New York Mets lost this afternoon to the Cincinnati Reds 8-6.  The Mets staked starting pitcher Oliver Perez to a 3 run lead in the third, only to have Perez give up 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. The Mets then got a run back in the fifth, but Perez gave up 4 more runs in the bottom half of the fifth. In all, Perez was charged with 8 runs while giving up 5 hits,  5 walks in just 4 1/3 innings.  He struck out seven.  The Mets bullpen kept the Reds scoreless the rest of the way and even though the Mets scored 2 more runs, they could not come back.  The final box score: Mets 6 runs, 10 hits, 0 errors and the Reds 8 runs, 9 hits, 1 error. The Mets next game is tomorrow (Friday) night in Florida vs. the Marlins.
