Mets Sweep Nationals

Wednesday, May 27, 2009.  The New York Mets completed their three game sweep of the Washington Nationals tonight winning 7-4.  Johan Santana earned his seventh win, giving up 3 hits, six walks (four in one inning) while striking out eleven.  Murphy had a career high five rbi, hitting a homerun and a double.  Final box score: Nationals 4 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors; Mets 7 runs, 11 hits, 1 error.  Thursday is an off day for the Mets. Next game: Friday, May 29th, 7:10 PM, Florida at New York.

Mets defeat Red Sox

Friday, May 22, 2009.  In their first game of interleague play, the New York Mets snapped their losing streak and beat the Boston Red Sox 5-3.  Johan Santana had to work out of a number of jams  (the Mets three errors didn’t help).  Francisco Rodriguez finished the game for Santana and earned his twelveth save in twelve chances. Final box score: Mets  5 runs,  8 hits, 3 errors;  Red Sox 3 runs, 7 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Saturday, May 23rd,  7:10 PM, New York at Boston.

Maine helps himself but it’s not Enough

Tuesday, May 19, 2009.  The New York Mets lost to the LA Dodgers 5-3.  John Maine drove in two of the three Mets runs with a single that gave them the lead in the second but it wasn’t enough.  With Carlos  Delgado out for some time, the Mets are going to have to find another way to ignite their defense which has gone suddenly quiet. Final box score: Mets 3 runs, 6 hits, 1 error;  Dodgers 5 runs, 9 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Wednesday, May 20th,  New York at Los Angeles, 10:10 PM.

Mets Steal a Win

Tuesday, May12, 2009.  The New York Mets snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by besting the Atlanta Braves 4-3.  Carlos Beltran was the hero as he scored the tying run in the bottom of the ninth by hitting a double, stealing third and then scoring on a flyout.  In the tenth, Beltran walked with the bases loaded for a walkoff victory. Final box score: Braves 3 runs, 10 hits, 0 errors; Mets 4 runs, 9 hits, 0 errors.  Next game: Wednesday, March 13th, 1:10 PM, Atlanta at New York.

Mets Move Into First Place

Saturday, May 9, 2009.  The New York Mets had their hitting shoes on today as the clobblered the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-1.  The Mets hammered out 17 hits and John Maine won his third straight.  It was the Mets sixth straight win and the most runs they have scored this season.  Final box score:  Pirates 1 run,  5 hits, 0 errors;  Mets 10 runs, 17 hits, 0 errors.  Next game: Sunday, May 10th, Pittsburgh at New York, 1:10 PM.

Mets Win Streak at Five

Friday, May 8, 2009.  The New York Mets won their fifth straight as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3.  The Mets iced the game with a five run eight inning.  Rookie Jon Niese went sixth strong innings but did not figure in the decision.  Fianl box score:  Pittsburg: 3 runs, 9 hits, 0 errors; New York 7 runs, 13 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Pirates at Mets,  Sat., May 9th, 1:10 PM.

Mets Take Series Opener from Phillies

Friday, May 1, 2009.  Mike Pelfrey gave the New York a solid start and the Mets went on to win 7-4 in the first game of of three game set against the Philadelphia Phillies.  Pelfrey went five and one third innings, giving up 3 runs and bringing his record up to 3-0.  Pelfrey even had  a sac fly driving in two runs.  Francisco Rodriguez pitched the eighth and ninth innings to earn his fifth save.   Final box score: Mets 7 runs, 9 hits, 2 errors; Phillies 4 runs, 8 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Sat., May 2nd, v. Phillies, 3:40 PM in Philadelphia.
