Mets Lose as Bullpen Fails

Friday, August 28, 2009. The New York Mets wasted an excellent pitching performance by Pat Misch and lost to the Chicago Cubs 5-2. Misch went 7 innings and left leading 2-1. But then then the Mets bullpen went to work, and Brian Stokes quickly turned a win into a loss. Final box score: Mets – 2 runs, 7 hits, 0 errors; Cubs – 5 runs, 9 hits, 1 error. Mets Lose to Pirates

Tuesday, June 2, 2009.  CC Sabaathia was on the mound for the New York Mets but that wasn’t enough this night to keep the Pittsburgh Pirates from winning the game 3-1.  Although Santan pitched well enough to win, the Mets could not do anything with Pirates starter Zach Duke or the bullpen. Mets Move Into First Place

Saturday, May 9, 2009.  The New York Mets had their hitting shoes on today as the clobblered the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-1.  The Mets hammered out 17 hits and John Maine won his third straight.  It was the Mets sixth straight win and the most runs they have scored this season.  Final box score:  Pirates 1 run,  5 hits, 0 errors;  Mets 10 runs, 17 hits, 0 errors.  Next game: Sunday, May 10th, Pittsburgh at New York, 1:10 PM.

Mets Win Streak at Five

Friday, May 8, 2009.  The New York Mets won their fifth straight as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3.  The Mets iced the game with a five run eight inning.  Rookie Jon Niese went sixth strong innings but did not figure in the decision.  Fianl box score:  Pittsburg: 3 runs, 9 hits, 0 errors; New York 7 runs, 13 hits, 1 error.  Next game: Pirates at Mets,  Sat., May 9th, 1:10 PM.

Mets Lose to Cards

Apr 21st, 2009.  The New York Mets blew an early four run lead and lost today 6-4 to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.  Oliver Perez was strong for four innings and then, as has become typical, fell apart and game up four runs in the fifth.  The Mets had a chance to go ahead in the eighth but Carlos Beltran missed the plate and was tagged out.  Final box score: Mets 4 runs, 11 hits, 1 error; Cards 6 runs, 11 hits, 1 run.  Next game: Wed 22nd, 8:15 PM v. Cardinals in St. Louis.

Mets Fall to Brewers

Sat., Apr.19,2009.  The New York Mets wasted their opportunities and lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2.  Nelson Figueroa put in a good effort for six innings, but the Mets could not score, leaving 10 runners on base despite getting 12 hits.  Final box score: Brewers 4 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Mets 2 runs, 12 hits, 0 errors.  Next game, Monday, Apr.20th, 7:10 PM v. Washington in New York.

Mets Win, Shef Hits No. 500

April 17th, 2009.  The New York Mets squeaked by the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 on a historic night as Gary Sheffield pinch hit in the seventh inning and hit his 500th homerun.  Shef’s homer was also was first hit as a Met.  As for the game, the Mets loaded the bases three times and each time left them all stranded. They won it in the bottom of the ninth on a rbi single by Luis Castillo.  Livan Hernandez was good thruopugh five but then lost it all in the sixth and could not get an out.  Sean Green came on in relief and shut down the Brewers uprising. Sheffield’s homer came in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.  Final box score: Brewers 4runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Mets 5 runs, 13 hits, 0 errors.  Next game: Mets v. Brewers, Sat. Apr 18th, 1:10 PM.

Mets Drop One to Reds

The New York Mets lost this afternoon to the Cincinnati Reds 8-6.  The Mets staked starting pitcher Oliver Perez to a 3 run lead in the third, only to have Perez give up 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. The Mets then got a run back in the fifth, but Perez gave up 4 more runs in the bottom half of the fifth. In all, Perez was charged with 8 runs while giving up 5 hits,  5 walks in just 4 1/3 innings.  He struck out seven.  The Mets bullpen kept the Reds scoreless the rest of the way and even though the Mets scored 2 more runs, they could not come back.  The final box score: Mets 6 runs, 10 hits, 0 errors and the Reds 8 runs, 9 hits, 1 error. The Mets next game is tomorrow (Friday) night in Florida vs. the Marlins.

Mets Topple Reds

Mike Pelfrey gave up four runs in the first inning but the New York Mets battled back against the Cincinnati Reds to take an eventual 9-7 win. Carlos Delgado hit a homerun (his 470th) and drove in four runs. Brian Schneider contributed by driving three runs. Pelfrey ended up with the win as he lasted five innings. The final box score: Mets 9 runs, 10 hits, 2 errors; Reds 7 runs, 9 hits, 1 error.

Mets Win Season Opener

The New York Mets won their first game of the new season over the Cincinnati Reds 2-1.  Johan Santana did his part by holding the Reds to one run and three hits in his 5 2/3 innings of work. And then the ‘new look’ bullpen did its job, throwing blanks and shutting down Cincinnati the rest of the way. Daniel Murphy hit a home run for the Mets. The final box score was: Mets 2 runs, 9 hits, 1 errors and the Reds 1 run, 3 hits, 1 error.
